Dr. Mahlon Dennis, founder and president, and several  key  technical personnel  draw on more than 150 years of combined experience in the development of high performance superabrasives. Products include PDC cutters for oilfield drill bits; PDC bearings for downhole drilling motors and production pumps; PCD tool blanks for automotive, aerospace and woodworking applications; PCBN tool blanks for ferrous machining; and other superabrasive tools and wear parts for a variety of  industries.

This broad experience base, coupled with state-of-the-art design and production capabilities, uniquely enables us to provide high value products and services that serve a wide variety of advanced cutting and wear applications. Our most recent materials developments include  microwave sintered carbide, carbide/diamond composites, and related production equipment.  These new materials are demonstrating high levels of wear resistance and impact properties not possible with  conventional  sintered tungsten carbides.

Our total quality program involves a comprehensive manufacturing and customer service plan that encompasses every aspect of our operation including raw material inspection and certification, product design, order entry, scheduling, production, and shipping. Numerous in-process inspections, utilization of computerized process controls, and modern inspection equipment assure our customers that every product we manufacture conforms to specifications.

Quality Control

Every Dennis Tool Company product must pass a rigorous series of quality control procedures which evaluate not only overall dimensional specifications, but also grain structure, surface condition, and internal structural integrity. An advanced ultrasonic C-Scan procedure is used by  skilled technicians to look deep into the structure of PDC and PCBN materials. This test, performed on all our products, is used to assure that each part is free of internal defects in the superabrasive layer and that the integrity of the interface between the superabrasive layer and the carbide substrate is optimal.

Each PCD or PCBN product is also subjected to ultraviolet dye penetrant examination, microscopic visual examination, and dimensional inspection using high precision PCD-tipped micrometers and other specialized measuring techniques. Brazed products are inspected using ultrasonic inspection techniques to detect possible internal flaws. DTC so consistently provides products that conform to specifications that our products are self-certified at most of our customers’ facilities—eliminating the need for re-inspection prior to use.
